New work: Metalsmithing and Jewelry

Last semester I took 6 classes, and one of those classes was Metalsmithing and Jewelry 101 with Sharon Portelance.

Holy Shit. That class was both the best and worst part of my semester. I put more time in to that class than any other class ever. I was in the metals studio almost every day (including weekends) I wanted to die most of the time and I worked my ass off in that class. It was the best part of my semester because it was so hard for me. That class kicked my ass, but I got some really good work out of it.

Slow Loris. from a 6x6" Sheet of copper.

Hollow ring. Brass. Inside is the poem Bluebird by Charles Bukowski.

Rat Necklace. Felt and copper beads. 50+ felt rats

I seriously think that everyone at MECA should take this class, it is a challenge in a way that many other classes are not. Though I would not suggest this course if you are taking 6 classes, it’s very time consuming.

Either way, I am super glad I took it.
